Alan has had a lifelong interest in nature since roaming the hills and beaches of his home county as a child and has been an active birder for 35 years. Having had a successful career in both manufacturing and retail he 'retired' 16 years ago to become a 'Let's Go Birding Dad' to twins and pursue a career in ornithology and has been working in a range of bird-related roles ever since. He switches his time between guiding small groups, working as an ornithological surveyor on a wide range of projects across the UK and working as part of the news team for the UK's leading bird news provider, as well as writing occasional articles for Birdwatch magazine. Away from work, he loves birding his local county in Northumberland and served as a member of the Northumberland County Records Committee for four years.
