Operations Manager

Eagle-Eye Tours is a specialty travel company delivering exceptional expertly guided birding tours worldwide. We are based in Invermere and are Canada’s largest birding tour operator. We pride ourselves on high standards, strong relationships with our guides and partners, and delivering memorable experiences for our clients.

We are seeking an organized, proactive, and people-focused Operations Manager to oversee and continuously improve the operational backbone of our company.

The Role

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Eagle-Eye Tours. This is a leadership role that combines team management, logistics coordination, guide relations, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.

You will supervise and support a portion of our Client Services & Logistics team (Tour Managers), manage a regional segment of our guide network, oversee permits and fleet logistics, and ensure our operational systems run smoothly and efficiently.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on problem-solving, enjoys supporting and developing people, and takes pride in creating well-structured, efficient systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead & Support Tour Managers

  • Lead and support Tour Managers through weekly one-on-one meetings focused on coaching, feedback and problem-solving.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and quarterly check-ins to support growth and accountability
  • Address performance concerns constructively and oversee improvement plans
  • Onboard and train new Tour Managers
  • Identify and facilitate ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Monitor key performance indicators and operational standards
  • Review operational reports and documentation to ensure quality and accuracy. 

2. Manage & Support Our Guide Network

  • Recruit and maintain a strong network of professional guides 
  • Manage guide onboarding, including registration, documentation, contracts and orientation
  • Manage annual guide contracts, and assign guides to tours 
  • Update and maintain guide resources, including the Guide Handbook
  • Monitor client feedback and support guides through coaching and performance management.
  • Address performance concerns when necessary,
  • Ensure completion of post-tour responsibilities and reporting
  • Organize virtual meetings and training sessions for guides

3. Permits & Compliance

  • Manage and submit complex permit applications for tours and operational activities
  • Support Tour Managers with permit-related processes and compliance requirements

4. Fleet Management

  • Coordinate scheduling and usage of company vehicles 
  • Arrange vehicle logistics  between locations as needed
  • Oversee maintenance coordination and general fleet management

5. Tour Scheduling & Ground Operations

  • Coordinate tour scheduling with guides, partners, and local ground operators
  • Source and negotiate pricing with ground operators
  • Identify and develop relationships with new ground operators when needed

6. Systems & Process Improvement

  • Develop, document and maintain operational procedures and standard operating practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal systems and workflows
  • Support staff training and implementation of new tools or operational proces

7. Continuous Tour Content Improvement

  • Ensure itineraries and client-facing materials accurately reflect the tour experience
  • Collaborate with internal teams to keep operational information up to date.

8. Cross-Functional Support

  • Work closely with teams across the organization, including (sales, marketing, finance, customer success and technology)
  • Contribute to operational planning, strategic initiatives and business improvements.
