Brecht has been birding since childhood. Through his local nature club (JNM), he quickly got hooked and began studying a range of wildlife, including mammals, dragonflies, and butterflies. After high school, pursuing a degree in Biology felt like the natural next step—a path that led to a scientific career at both a university and the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology.
In time, the travel bug lured him away from academia and into the wider world. Through guiding, Brecht discovered he could share his passion for nature and travel with others.
Alongside leading wildlife trips in well-known destinations, Brecht loves adventures off the beaten track. He has worked as a glacier guide in Iceland and leads several remote treks in Greenland, including the full Greenland crossing on skis.
He has lived in Iceland, Sweden, and Georgia, and feels at home wherever in the world he finds himself.
