Kyle d’Entremont is primarily a seabird biologist by trade and is most at home exploring the fantastic seabird colonies that dot the coastline of Atlantic Canada. His “spark” bird was the Leach’s Storm-Petrel, that led him down the rabbit hole of seabird conservation and birding. He has worked up close and personal with other species such as Northern Gannets, Atlantic Puffins, Black-legged Kittiwakes and Common Murres and had the great pleasure of discovering Canada’s first confirmed breeding record of Manx Shearwater in ~10 years in Newfoundland in 2022. His line of work also brought him to California for 5 months in 2024, where he spent most of his downtime from staring at seabird colonies all day by traveling the state in search of more birds! In addition to his work with seabirds, he has also conducted landbird surveys at various locations in the wilds of Atlantic Canada.
Kyle earned his Master’s degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland studying the reproductive success and movement ecology of Northern Gannets at the species’ southernmost colony in Cape St. Mary’s, Newfoundland. He now works as an environmental consultant and field biologist. While not in the field for work, he is often in search of the next rarity in his home province of Nova Scotia and is always excited to share his findings.
