Cedar discovered birding as a kid growing up in the Adirondack mountains of New York State, surrounded by fields, forests and a wealth of breeding birds. They have worked for the NYS Breeding Bird Atlas, and volunteer for Project Mountain Birdwatch and the BBS. After taking a break from serious birding for a number of years to pursue their other major passion, music, Cedar rediscovered the joy of birding and became a serious lister in 2012. Since then they have birded across north, central, and south America, and guide groups of happy birders at birding festivals, on international birding tours, and on local morning walks. When not birding, Cedar is also a professional musician, travelling across North America playing traditional music for contra dances and other events.
