Bald Eagle art

Stephen Anstee

Starting off life in Australia and four years in Fiji, gave Stephen a background of travel and the sea. After graduating with a degree in Surveying in Sydney, Stephen spent a short time in the industry both on land in Australia and at sea on a seismic survey ship in the South China Sea.

The next few years brought with it a different education in the form of travel and working closer to nature. This started with a trip to Antarctica, then traveling overland most of the way to Canada. Here Stephen worked on a schooner as mate taking wilderness charters based on natural and cultural history on Canada’s west coast and Southeastern Alaska. When not sailing, travels continued by bicycle through Mediterranean Europe, by 4WD through West Africa, backpacking in China and trekking in Nepal. Other work during this time included a year spent on the Turkish Coast as mate on a sailing charter boat and skippering a kayak mother ship back on Canada’s West coast.

Stephen married Heidi who he'd met the first season in Canada. Together they bought a small yacht in Australia and sailed it back to Vancouver Island, Canada. Stephen has his 60 ton Limited Masters ticket and they now co-run a research vessel for Raincoast Conservation Society in the Great Bear Rainforest on Canada’s west coast. This work involves field research on coastal wolves, salmon, marine mammals and seabirds.
