Norbert
Kondla
Norbert Kondla has been an active naturalist and biologist in western
Canada for more than 40 years. A diverse working life in environmental
consulting and government natural resource management has provided
Norbert with both an intimate and broad perspective on the interaction
between human society and biodiversity. He is currently semi-retired
and continues with butterfly research as well as consulting projects.
Volunteer work includes membership on the Arthropods Specialist subcommittee
of the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada. Norbert
graduated from the University of Calgary in 1973 and is a member of
the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists and the College of Applied
Biology in British Columbia.
He has worked with vascular plants, birds and mammals but especially
enjoys butterflies. Norbert has published numerous papers on butterflies
and some on birds. He has co-authored a book on Alberta butterflies
and contributed to several other butterfly books as well as a bird
finding guide in Alberta and a naturalists guide to Alberta. Recently
Norbert has discovered the joy of butterfly photography with the convenience
of a digital camera.
