Blake
Maybank
is an experienced
writer/editor. He's the editor of "Nova
Scotia Birds," is past-editor of "Canadian Birding",
and writes seasonal bird summaries for "North American Birds" and "Birders
Journal." He
authored "The National Parks of Canada" for New Holland Press,
and his "Birder's Guide to Nova Scotia" is scheduled for
spring 2005. In addition he writes columns and articles for numerous
publications. He maintains a birding trip report web site, www.birdingtheamericas.com,
and the Nova Scotia RBA, groups.yahoo.com/group/NS-RBA/. Blake worked
for more than 20 years with Parks Canada around the country, including
being Chief Park Naturalist for Gros Morne National Park. He served
on the American Birding Association board for eight years, authored
their "Code
of Birding Ethics," and edited their "Big
Day Report" from 1987-2000. He is married to Martine Dufresne
(a teacher and botanist from Quebec, Canada), and is bilingual (English
and French). He's widely travelled, having visited more than 40 countries
on five continents. Although birding is a passion, Blake has eclectic
interests that include music, cinema, photography, botany, gardening,
bridge, travel, reading, and wine-making.
